both the X2 and k56Flex modems providing you with the best data rates possible.
Don't worry if you do not have a 56k modem, your modem should
work with the our systems.
If all else fails, GO TO THIS PAGE
and read about your modem.

Why
you won't get 56k-Article by C|Net

US Robotics X2 and Hayes Acura Modems
If your modem is a U.S. Robotics X2
modem, you will need to upgrade
before you will connect at higher speeds.
Older Hayes Acura modems may not be compatible with the new
v.90 or k56 Flex standard. This means users will only be able to connect at
speeds up to 28.8k. This beta code
allows your K56Flex Hayes client modem to be interoperable with all
Rockwell-based and Lucent-based K56Flex servers.

Help!
These modems should work at 56K, but may need to be
flash upgraded.

My 56K modem won't connect any faster than 33.6 KBPS
Our terminal servers and modems require V.90 or version 1.0 or
better of 56K Flex. If your modem has an older version, you will need to obtain
an update from your modem manufacturer.
My modem only connects at 1200 bps
Try placing 2, 3 or 4 commas after the phone number you dial
to access our service. This will turn off the 56K portion of the modem on our
end and will usually solve the problem.

I have a US Robotics Sportster and am
getting lots of hang-ups.
 | Download the latest .INF file for your modem from USR's web
site. The URL is: http://www.usr.com/home/online/files/d107.htm.
Follow the directions on that page for your specific system and
configuration. |
 | Place the following Initialization string in the advanced
settings for your modem: AT&F1&K1&M4S25=10S27.5=1 |
Explanation
The .INF file contains the basic initialization strings for
the specific modem. It also tells Windows95 how to deal with the modem. There
have been some modifications to that file, and it appears to have improved
Windows95's handling of the modem.
The Initialization string tells the modem to do the following:
 | &F1 Reset to factory defaults for hardware flow
control. |
 | &K1 Auto enable / disable data compression. |
 | &M4 Enables error control above 1200 baud. |
 | S25=10 Increases the time-out before hanging up if carrier
is lost to 1 sec. |
 | S27.5=1 Disables V32bis Data Compression. |
The major settings in this string are the two S??=. They seem
to be the key to the solution but the entire process seems to prove the most
successful.
My modem won't connect at all or hangs
up shortly after connecting.
Make sure that you have the latest version of the modem
drivers, firmware, and INF files for your modem. We know that the latest drivers
will solve connection problems with the following modems:
