Windows 98/Me/2000 Setup
Windows 98/Me/2000 comes with all the software that is needed to connect to
BASIC NEEDS and use the internet. The Internet Connection Wizard (ICW) is a tool that helps you to configure your Windows 98/Me/2000 computer to use
BASIC NEEDS.
Before you begin, you will need to gather together the information that you will need to provide during the Internet Connection Wizard's setup process.
Allow about 5 minutes to complete this process.

Set up Process
When you are ready to begin locate the Internet Connection Wizard icon.
If the icon is not on your desktop you can find it by clicking Start then Programs then Internet Explorer and then Connection Wizard.

The first screen that comes up will ask you to select the type of internet connection you will be using.
To use your BASIC NEEDS Account choose the second option:
I have an existing Internet account through my phone line or a local area network (LAN). Help me set up my computer to connect to this Internet account.
Click the dot for that choice and click Next.

The next screen lets you specify that you will be:
Accessing the internet using an Internet service provider or a local area network (LAN).
Select this option and click Next.

Specify that you will be connecting to the internet using your phone line.
Then click Next.

Provide your local BASIC NEEDS Dial-Up phone number....NO space,
dash or hyphen needed.
Do not use an area code unless the number is outside your local calling area.
Uncheck the box that says Dial using the area code and country code.
Double check the phone number.
Click Next to continue.

Provide your username and password,
Note: All letters in all usernames and passwords must be in lower case, any UPPERCASE letters will prevent you from being able to log on. Also note that your password will not be
visible - an asterisk (*) will appear for each letter and/or number you enter.
Click Next to continue.

Select Yes to change the advanced settings for this connection.
Click Next to continue.

Choose PPP (Point to Point Protocol)
Click Next to continue.

Select - I don't need to type anything when logging on
Click Next to continue

You may get this cautionary window if you have file sharing turned on. Selecting Yes will disable file and printer sharing via your dial-up connection but will not affect the rest of your network

Choose the first option:
My Internet service provider automatically assigns me one.
Click Next to continue.

Specify the DNS (Domain Name Server) Addresses
Select Always Use the Following and then specify:
DNS Server: 216.126.128.40
Alternative DNS Server: 216.126.136.250
Click Next to continue.

Name the Dial-Up Connection.
Type BASIC NEEDS in the space provided.
Click Next to Continue

Select No
Click Next to continue.

Select No
Click Next to continue.

You will asked whether or not you want to Set Up your Internet Directory Services.
Select No
Click Next to continue.

You have successfully set up your Windows 98/Me/2000 computer for use with
BASIC NEEDS.
Click Finish and then click on the Internet icon on your desktop to connect to
BASIC NEEDS.
Remember that your username and password must be in all lowercase.
